Aaron was recently name a USAID/OFDA Humanitarian Shelter and Settlements fellow, where he will analyze data collected from three previous field visits to the Philippines following Typhoon Yolanda to compare different organizational approaches towards participation of local actors in making decisions, facilitating project implementation and evaluating shelter outcomes. The fellowship will support his work in creating a compilation of shelter project case studies, which will provide insight to different shelter modalities, such as material distributions, homeowner managed reconstruction schemes and transitional shelter. Aaron will also produce a policy note directed to implementing organizations on the impact of various forms of participation on recovery outcomes in order to strengthen future post-disaster shelter strategies. The fellowship will also support his travel to disseminate findings at various conferences and workshops.
