Aaron was recently invited to speak at the EWB-USA West Coast Conference in San Luis Obispo, California. His talk was featured as the afternoon plenary session titled “Engaging with Communities: Achieving Meaningful Participation in Development Projects.” The session explored the historical context of participation in development projects and valuation of community resources and time. The talk featured several components of audience engagement, including the word cloud shown, which asked those in attendance why they use participation in their EWB projects. Additionally, Aaron led a breakout session titled “Participatory Assessment and Implementation Strategies for Projects” which presented tools and techniques for project teams to include communities in decision-making and construction.
